Writing a Persuasive Essay - The First Step

Writing a Persuasive Essay - The First StepWhen you first get started in writing an effective persuasive essay, the topics can seem pretty daunting. The truth is that it is not as hard as you think. It is just a matter of knowing your topic, finding persuasive reasons and then getting that information out there to the reader to convince them to agree with you and agree with what you have to say.In this article I will be discussing the fact that you do not need to research each and every topic that you write about to write a persuasive essay. You will also find out why many people get stuck on topics or get sidetracked and never really get to the point of their essay. With these two problems, you can find yourself going into writing an essay having a half done outline and most likely having forgotten half the ideas that you originally had. This will leave you with a big problem at the end of your essay, when you are unable to figure out how to end it.Before you start thinking about th e different topics that you could write about, the first thing that you need to do is sit down and list all of the topics that you have written about in the past. It may be good to write down a few short ideas first. By thinking about your writing over again, you are strengthening your ability to make the most persuasive arguments. Remember that you can always refer back to this list. It is like learning how to read the dictionary over again until you master the words and learn them at the same time. Now that you have a list of different topic that you have covered before, it is time to narrow your focus to just one or two. Most people will simply jump right into topics on the list that they feel passionate about. While you may be feeling a great connection with that topic, think about whether or not that topic is going to resonate with your reader. The next step to take is to determine if the topic is important to you personally. Is it something that you can relate to? If it is impor tant to you, there is a very good chance that the topic is important to your readers. If you cannot relate to the topic, then it is time to move on.Next, think about who the writer is. What are they trying to accomplish with their essay? Is it to persuade someone to agree with them, their opinions or their ideas or is it to give the reader a reason to change their opinion on the subject? Now that you know who the writer is and what they are trying to accomplish, it is time to focus on the audience. Are they students, parents, colleagues, future employers, clients, anyone in society? This will help to give you a better idea of what kind of arguments you should use in your essay. One thing that I would recommend is that you write about topics that are not too controversial, but ones that have a good chance of being controversial. Keep in mind that if you choose something that may cause some controversy, you may not be able to convince anyone to agree with you. Keep this in mind before y ou choose your topic.
